Pensacola State College announced proposed lab fee changes for several Applied Technology and Professional Services Departments for students enrolled in the programs.
The College’s District Board of Trustees will vote on the fee changes at the Tuesday, June 20 meeting at 5:30 p.m. on the Pensacola campus. If approved by the Board of Trustees, the new fees will take effect for the Fall 2023 Semester.
The courses and proposed changes include the following:
Applied Technology and Professional Services Department
- BCV 003C Introductory to Craft Skills (Multiple Programs) lab fees increase to $175 from $125.
Reason: Total fee accounts for increased costs for small hand tools and equipment called for in the labs and performance tasks.
- FSS 2059C Chocolates and Confections (Multiple Programs) lab fee increases to $50 from $0.
Reason: According to the USDA, prices in all food categories are expected to go up throughout the rest of 2023, and at least half of all categories will experience double-digit inflation. Florida food prices increased about 15 percent in 2021 and are expected to increase another 5 percent to 6 percent in 2023. Lab fee increase accounts for miscellaneous food items used by students to meet objectives for the course.
- FSS 2284C Catering, Banquet, and Event Management (Multiple Programs) lab fees increase to $35 from $25.
Reason: According to the USDA, prices in all food categories are expected to go up throughout the rest of 2023, and at least half of all categories will experience double-digit inflation. - MSS 0262C Massage Therapy B lab fee increases to $50 from $25.
Reason: Suppliers have given the College multiple price increase in materials and freight costs. Due to these increases, it has become necessary to raise prices. Suppliers include towels, sheets, oils and other miscellaneous consumable supplies.
Health Sciences Department
- ATE 1110L Animal Anatomy and Physiology (Multiple Programs) lab fees increase to $52 from $34.
Reason: Increased cost of supplies.
- ATE 2634L Small Animal Clinical Procedures III (Multiple Programs) lab fees increase to $285 from $117.
Reason: Increased cost of supplies.
Humanities and Social Sciences Department
- EME 2040 Introduction to Technology Educators (Multiple Programs) fee decreases to $0 from $25.
Reason: The technology introduced to students in this class is currently available online for free. There is no need to charge a lab fee to buy software for this course as was necessary in the past.
Mathematics and Computer Science Department
- CET 1179C PC Operating Systems A+ (Electronics Engineering Technology A.S.) lab fee increases to $112 from $109.
Reason: Update Lab/DL fee to pay for industry-standard certification vouchers provided to students. CompTIA A+ (220-1002).
- CET 1588 Network+ (Multiple Programs) lab fee increases to $173 from $168.
Reason: Update Lab/DL fee to pay for industry-standard certification vouchers provided to students. CompTIA Network+ (N10-008).
- Cybersecurity (Bachelor of Applied Science) CIS 3122C lab fee increases to $254 from $247.
Reason: Update Lab/DL fee to pay for industry standard certifications vouchers provided to students. CompTIA (CSI-002) CSY A+ Exam Code CSO-002 and CSO-003).
- Cybersecurity (Associate in Science) CNT 2210C Enterprise Networking Security and Automation lab fee increases to $300 from $126.
Reasons: Update Lab/DL fee to pay for industry-standard certification vouchers provided to students. CISCO CCNA.
- Cybersecurity (Bachelor of Applied Science) CNT 3411 Security Operations lab fee increases to $300 from $126.
