Benjamin Rollings was a talented and accomplished piano student, earning scholarships and graduation distinctions throughout his musical studies, which began at age 6.
As a teacher, Rollings is just as accomplished.
Rollings is a Pensacola State College adjunct music instructor and staff accompanist. On March 10, he was presented a Top Piano Teacher Award from Steinway & Sons, the prestigious piano company.
Christy Myers, a Steinway regional representative and owner of Steinway Piano Gallery in Spanish Fort, Alabama, presented Rollings with the award.
“Dr. Rollings teaches not only here but for his church and in the community,’’ Myers said. “This is to honor and recognize his excellence in music instruction.”
Rollings has been an adjunct and accompanist at the College since September 2021. He is also a private music instructor and an adjunct at the University of Mobile.
“I enjoy working with young students especially,’’ Rollings said. “They start not knowing anything, not reading music, and in a couple of months, they’ve progressed so much. ”
As a student, Rollings received the Theodore Presser Scholarship and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music from the University of South Alabama in 2011. He earned his Master of Music from the University of Georgia in 2013 and his Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University Bloomington in 2020. He graduated with a 4.0 grade point average at all three universities.
His numerous award and honors include the Franz Liszt Award (2013) from the University of Georgia and the winner of the University of Georgia Symphony Concerto Competition (2011). He was a finalist in the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition in 2014.
