Nursing pinning ceremony is Dec. 12 at First Pentecostal Church in Pensacola
Lumon May, member of the Escambia Board of County Commissioners, will be the keynote speaker at Pensacola State College’s fall graduation set for 5:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in the Pensacola Bay Center.
May is a lifelong native of Pensacola, an alumnus of Pensacola State College, and a University of West Florida graduate.
He is a state-certified General Contractor and Home-Inspector, founder of the Southern Youth Sports Association, and owner of May’s Construction and May-Bear Contractors.
In 2012, he was elected to the Escambia Board of County Commissioners and served as Chairman and Vice-Chairman. His achievements include establishing the community redevelopment area “clean sweep” program; establishing the Brownsville Community Center for future use as a job training, recreation, and cultural arts facility; instituting summer youth camps beginning in June of 2014 at Brownsville, Wedgewood, Ebonwood and Dorrie Miller Community Centers; and establishing the Summer Youth Employment Program allowing for hundreds of youth to experience first time employment while learning the inner workings of county government.
May’s community service includes the Community Action Program Committee, the Community Drug and Alcohol Commission, the Council on Aging of Northwest Florida, the Juvenile Justice Council, the Areas Housing Commissioner, and the Pensacola State College Board of Governors. He is a member of the National Association of County Commissioners, the Florida Association of Counties, and the Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization.
The ceremony’s Grand Marshal will be Beverly Donahue, instructor of Natural Sciences.
Michael Payne, the Business Department head, and Kenneth Phillips, the Performing Arts Department head, will serve as Faculty Marshals.

Registered nursing graduates will be pinned at a 3:00 p.m. ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 12, at First Pentecostal Church, 6485 Pensacola Blvd.
