The Pensacola State College Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Awards.
Recipients will be honored at the inaugural Pensacola State College Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala set for 6 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Jean and Paul Amos Performance Studio on the Pensacola campus.
“In honor of our 70th anniversary, we proudly introduce a new tradition – the Pensacola State College Distinguished Alumni Awards,” said Pensacola State President Ed Meadows. “We look forward to recognizing our alumni achievements and celebrating our history at the Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala on May 4.”
The gala’s theme will be “Building on Tradition – Investing in the Future” and the event will also celebrate the College’s 70th anniversary of service to the community. The gala will be hosted by the PSC Alumni Association and the Office of the President.
“The PSC Alumni Association Board of Directors is proud to join with Dr. Meadows and the College in seeking nominations and hosting these Distinguished Alumni Awards and Gala,” said Lane Harper, president of the PSC Alumni Association Board of Directors. “In partnership with PSC and our community leaders, we look forward to recognizing the outstanding achievements of our alumni and celebrating the College’s 70 years of service to our community.”
Nominations are open to Pensacola State and Pensacola Junior College alumni who earned a minimum of 30 credit hours and who have brought distinction to the College through a record of extraordinary service and achievement to a community, organization or cause. All nominations must be submitted no later than Feb. 15.
The four award categories are:
- Life Achievement Award – a true success story in a state or national arena.
- Against the Odds Award – an alumnus who overcame adversity and achieved success.
- Rising Star Award – an alumnus under the age of 40 who has a success story with potential for achievement in a state or national level.
- Hometown Hero – an alumnus who has achieved success within the college’s district and demonstrated notable community involvement.
Alumni not eligible for consideration include previous PSC Distinguished Alumni Award winners, current PSC or Florida College System employees, current Florida legislators, current members of the College District Board of Trustees, current members of the PSC Alumni Board of Directors, current members of the PSC Foundation Board of Directors and posthumous nominations.
“We encourage everyone to nominate someone you know who attended the College and has accomplished significant career or life success and has made a positive impact in our community or beyond,” Meadows said.
The PSC Alumni Association provides alumni networking opportunities and engagement, student scholarships, matching funds and supports the mission of Pensacola State College.
“We are proud to honor our notable alumni and pleased to celebrate seven decades of service to Pensacola and Northwest Florida. For 70 years, the College has been an integral part of our community and the Florida higher education system,” Harper said. “The Alumni Association supports Dr. Meadows and the College in recognizing alumni greatness, building on tradition and investing in the future of our community.”
