Pensacola State College alumnae Shannon Hoffman is among several firefighters and support staff employees recognized at the 2024 Escambia County Fire Rescue Awards Ceremony at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church in June.
A fire and rescue department photographer, Hoffman received a Service Recognition Medal. A double-PSC graduate, Hoffman has been with the fire and rescue department for over four years.
She earned a criminal scene technician certificate and an associate degree in criminal justice from the College and was a Phi Theta Kappa honor society member.
A volunteer firefighter from 1999 to 2000, Hoffman decided to join the department after losing her best friend in 2019.
“District Chief Dwaine Bradshaw was my friend, and he was killed in an accident on Nov. 6, 2019. I was hired in April 2020,” Hoffman recalled. “Receiving this award is bittersweet. I joined the fire rescue department for him, and I continue to do it for him.”
Over her career with the department, Hoffman’s photos have been published four times in the largest fire department trade publication – Firehouse Magazine. Her images and videos have also been featured in numerous news articles and reports.
Hoffman is also active in the community – having served as an assistant coach for the Miracle League of Pensacola. Founded in 2002, the organization provides individuals with mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball in an organized league.
