Pensacola State College will present the Pensacola Guitar Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Joe Stallings, in its 40th Anniversary Spring Recital on Saturday, April 1. The recital is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is free.
The recital will feature the nine-member guitar orchestra and soloists from Pensacola State College, the University of West Florida, and recent prize winners of state and regional competitions.
Members of Pensacola Guitar Orchestra are Pensacola State College students ─ Peg Barrett, Patrick Kinnell, Laws Savage, Sienna Hudak, Israel Railing and Isaac Railing, along with the University of West Florida students Rory Swanson, Connor Bond and Dawson Calugar.
Soloists include 15-year-old Israel Railing, winner of the Florida College System Activity Association’s (FCSAA) 2022 Music Student Artist Competition, and Isaac Railing, 15, winner of the Artistic Merit Award in Classical Guitar at the FCSAA 2022 Music Student Artist Competition.
Also performing solos will be Donald Hinchman, 17, first-place winner in the PSC 2023 Finger Style Acoustic Guitar Competition, and Laws Savage, 18, second-place winner in the PSC 2023 Finger Style Acoustic Guitar Competition.
The program will include works from several composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Scott Joplin, Fernando Sor, Matteo Carcassi, Isaac Albéniz, Frédéric Chopin, Jürg Kindle, Agustín Barrios Mangoré, and the Beatles.
