Mary Mabins, Pensacola State College
For those who aspire for a career in public service, Pensacola State College’s JobX website has a position for you.
An unpaid internship with Florida District 2 Rep. Alex Andrade is among the more than 100 employment opportunities now populating the College’s JobX site.
“This is a great opportunity for the right person,” said Jo McArthur, the PSC Business and Outreach Coordinator. “It is 10 to 20 hours a week; and on some days the intern would be working directly with Rep. Andrade. It’s great for someone who wants to learn hands-on and be involved in research, marketing and other disciplines.”
For those looking for paid employment, the site also has openings for licensed practical nurses, caregivers, wedding day coordinators, diesel mechanics, childcare, administrative and even fast-food sector positions. Launched in July, the JobX site also includes information on the company that is hiring, wages, hours, job location, number of openings and, in some cases, an actual link to a job application.
“So far, we’ve had 27 students to apply for positions on JobX since the first day of classes (Aug. 17) when the site was rolled out,” said McArthur, who urged more students to visit the site and look through the postings.
“It’s a free job board where outside employers post open positions. These employers want to hire our students or alumni. So many of our students need to work, and we think it’s a great tool to help them.”
Before JobX went live, Pensacola State reached out to about 1,200 employers to register and use the website to find qualified students or alumni to fill open positions.
Employers that have listings on the site include BeeHive Homes of Gulf Breeze, Brookdale Pensacola, Capital Insurance Agency, Community Health of Northwest Florida, Creative School Age Child Care, Domino’s Pizza, Episcopal Day School, Firehouse Subs, Gulf States Automation, Keegan Staffing, Landrum HR, , Medical Services of Northwest Florida, My Florida House, Nilssen Orthopedics, Resource Management, Retirement Solutions Center of Pensacola, Santa Rosa County, TLC Caregivers, Total Connect Solutions, Wesley Haven Villa and WFL Turf Services.
“There are highly-skilled positions, health care jobs, pizza delivery, IT jobs all on the site. Our students’ have responded well but we also want the community to know that it is open to them as well. The site is super easy to navigate for both employers and applicants and it’s free. There is absolutely no charge to use JobX.”
