Auditions for ‘The Producers’ set for Sept. 23-24 at Pensacola State

Pensacola State College will hold auditions for “The Producers” at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23-24, in Ashmore Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus, 1000 College Blvd.

The Pensacola State College Performing Arts Department will stage the play Nov. 8-10 and Nov. 14-17 in the auditorium.

The Pensacola State production will be based on the musical adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks’s 1967 movie, “The Producers.”  Lyrics were written and composed by Brooks, and arranged by Glen Kelly and Doug Besterman.

As in the movie, the story centers around two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. Complications arise when the show unexpectedly turns out to be successful.
