Three former Pirates competed with the Australian team in the 2024 WBSC Women’s World Cup Finals.
Georgia Hood, Jenna Trim and Shaylan Whatman helped the Aussie Spirit to a seventh-place finish in the World Baseball Softball Confederation finals held July 15-21 in Castions di Strada, Italy.
Hood, the most recent Pensacola State College alum, was named an NJCAA All-American, State and Panhandle Player of the Year in her freshman and sophomore seasons (2022 and 2023).
A pitcher and first baseman, she played at Coastal Carolina University this past season and was named to the Sun Belt All-Conference Team.
At the World Cup, Hood started 4-of-5 games at first base, and a highlight of the tournament was going 2-for-4 with a double against the Netherlands.
Trim, a utility player, was a two-time First Team All-Panhandle selection as a Pirate in 2021 and 2022. She played a season at the University of New Mexico after leaving Pensacola State before returning to Australia.
The versatile Trim played in all five games in Italy, splitting time between the DP (Designated Position) slot, outfield and first base. She contributed a double in Australia’s wins over Italy.
Whatman had her freshman season (2020) at Pensacola State cut short due to COVID-19 but was a strong presence in her second year (2021). She was named to the First Team All-Panhandle and made the State All-Tournament team.
After graduating from PSC, the third baseman played a year at San Diego State University before transferring to California State University, Northridge, where she was a two-time All-Conference selection.
Whatman appeared in four games at the World Cup and was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI against Puerto Rico.
