Debbie Douma, dean of Grants and Federal Programs at Pensacola State College, was honored with the United Way Service Award during the United Way of West Florida’s Annual Celebration on Friday, Aug. 21. The award, one of the organization’s highest individual honors, recognizes her exemplary leadership and outstanding commitment to volunteer service with the organization.
As a United Way of West Florida board member for close to five years, Douma serves as Executive Committee secretary and on other teams essential to the organization’s success, including the Community Investment Committee, Glitz & Gallop Gala Committee and the Development Advisory Council. In these roles, she helps guide fundraising efforts, evaluate local grant applications and oversee the distribution of donor funds to maximize community impact.
“I joke that United Way is my part-time job, but I thoroughly enjoy working with the dedicated staff and fellow board members, and many have become dear friends,” she said. “I feel strongly about the mission and how United Way touches just about every segment of our community.”
Douma also led the United Way employee giving campaign at PSC for two years.
“At Pensacola State, we believe in investing in our community,” said PSC President Ed Meadows. “I am personally grateful to Dr. Douma for representing the college in such an admirable manner and all of our faculty and staff who generously support the United Way.”
