The Pensacola State College District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Sept. 21 to appoint J. Alex Kelly as the College’s seventh president, selecting Florida’s Secretary of Commerce to lead PSC into its next chapter.

It is an honor to serve as Pensacola State College’s seventh president and to lead a college that has transformed lives and strengthened communities across Florida’s Great Northwest.
Our students come from all walks of life. They are recent high school graduates, working adults, veterans, military families, and people pursuing opportunities to elevate their families. Each arrives with ambitions for the future. Our responsibility is to help turn those ambitions into reality.
Every decision I make will be guided by a simple question: What is best for our students? That means removing unnecessary barriers, creating clear pathways to graduation and ensuring students have the support, skills and credentials to succeed in their careers and in life.
When our students succeed, Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, and our entire region benefits. PSC graduates are educating children, caring for patients, maintaining aircraft, cultivating our land, starting businesses, defending our nation, and raising families. I have spent much of my career at the intersection of education, workforce and economic development, and I know firsthand the difference a college can make when it connects educational opportunity with the needs of its region.
My goal is to build on PSC’s strong foundation and elevate its reputation as a statewide leader in student success, workforce partnerships and preparing graduates for rewarding careers in a changing economy. Every member of the PSC community has a role in telling that story. We are all ambassadors for the College, whether through the achievements we celebrate, the experiences we share or the pride we show in being Pirates. Together, we can help more people recognize the extraordinary opportunities PSC creates for students and our region.
Achieving that vision will require listening, collaboration and a willingness to embrace new ideas. I look forward to learning from our students, faculty and staff, strengthening partnerships throughout the region and building on the excellent work already underway.
I am proud to be a Pirate, excited about what we can accomplish together and eager to get to work.
