INTRODUCTION
Provides the first two years of a baccalaureate degree for students who want to become a Physical Education Teacher.
Students should consult with an advisor at the college or university they plan to attend for the specific courses recommended by that institution. We strongly encourage you to contact the Pensacola State College History, Languages, and Social Sciences Department for assistance in planning your program of study.
BEYOND GRADUATION
Students who want to become a Physical Education Teacher should choose HPRPE-AA. With this program students transfer directly into the UWF Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science program (Physical Education Teacher Specialization).
Occupations
Recreation and Fitness Studies Teacher, Postsecondary
Teach courses pertaining to recreation, leisure, and fitness studies, including exercise physiology and facilities management. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.
Athlete and Sports Competitor
Compete in athletic events.
Coach and Scout
Instruct or coach groups or individuals in the fundamentals of sports. Demonstrate techniques and methods of participation. May evaluate athletes’ strengths and weaknesses as possible recruits or to improve the athletes’ technique to prepare them for competition. Those required to hold teaching degrees should be reported in the appropriate teaching category.
Athletic Trainer
Evaluate and advise individuals to assist recovery from or avoid athletic-related injuries or illnesses, or maintain peak physical fitness. May provide first aid or emergency care.
Fitness Trainer and Aerobics Instructor
Instruct or coach groups or individuals in exercise activities. Demonstrate techniques and form, observe participants, and explain to them corrective measures necessary to improve their skills.
