Jeff Revette has been named head of the Visual Arts Department at PSC.
Mississippi artist and educator Jeff Revette has been named head of the Visual Arts Department at Pensacola State College. He joined PSC on Aug. 3 after serving as the chair and an assistant professor of the Department of Art at William Carey University, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Revette brings extensive experience in higher education, curriculum development, military leadership, ceramics, sculpture and community arts engagement to his new role. As a practicing artist, his creative work focuses on narrative ceramics, mixed-media sculpture and installation, and his research has included the study of ancient porcelain ceramics in Jingdezhen and Songjiang (Shanghai), China.
In the classroom, he has strived to create a safe, caring and positive atmosphere that motivates students to actively engage in the learning process and explore their creativity while inspiring them to become lifelong learners.
He is passionate about creating opportunities for students to develop their artistic voices, engage with their communities, and prepare for meaningful careers and lives through the visual arts.
“As we have been created, so we must create given our beliefs, values and what inspires us. We must rely upon the sense of wonder to motivate us to be lifelong seekers of knowledge and to engage in the creative process,” said Revette.
The Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts is home to the department’s associate degree programs in art, graphic design and photography, as well as the Bachelor of Applied Science in Graphic Design program. Along with providing leadership for academic programs, Revette oversees the center’s two exhibition galleries, the Charles W. Lamar Studio Gallery and the Anna Lamar Switzer Center Gallery, which feature visiting artists and juried exhibitions year-round.
Visual Arts Department programs, student scholarships and gallery events are supported by members of the Anna Society through the Pensacola State College Foundation.
Revette said he is eager to connect with the department’s patrons and Northwest Florida’s arts community and to support opportunities that bring students, artists and the public together at PSC, such as a reception scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m. honoring visiting artist Mona Bozorgi and celebrating her exhibition, “The Haptic Image.”
“I greatly look forward in making new friends here in the greater Pensacola arts community and count it a privilege to represent the Visual Arts Department with Pensacola State College,” he said. “Join me in welcoming artist Mona Bozorgi as she presents her remarkable work that incorporates photography and three-dimensional materials and explores touch as both a physical sensation and an emotional force.”
Revette holds a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Three-Dimensional Design from Mississippi College, a graduate certificate in Studio Arts from Spring Hill College, and a Master of Science in Workforce Training and Development from the University of Southern Mississippi. Additionally, he is a U.S. Army veteran with more than 26 years of service and received the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan.
