Pensacola State College Charter Academy graduate Joi Wilmer gives Senior Class President Address during Spring Commencement.
The Pensacola State College Charter Academy held commencement exercises for 37 graduating high school seniors at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 11, in the Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio on the Pensacola campus.
Welcome and congratulatory remarks from Charter Academy Principal Karen McCabe, Ed.D., and PSC President Ed Meadows, Ed.D., were followed by the commencement address from PSC District Board of Trustees Chair Gordon Sprague.
Representing their classmates at the podium were Daschle Nelson, who led the Pledge of Allegiance, Valedictorian Dominic Desporte and Senior Class President Joi Wilmer.
According to McCabe, 24 of the 37 graduates will also be awarded associate degrees from PSC during the college’s commencement exercises on Wednesday, May 13.
Meadows instructed the graduates to “never stop learning; learning is lifelong.” He also shared a favorite quote written by Thomas Jefferson in an 1816 letter to John Adams, stating, “I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.”
Sprague also encouraged the graduates to follow their dreams for the future, saying, “You will, if you desire, contribute to a rapidly changing world.”
The PSC Charter Academy offers qualifying high school students a rigorous curriculum with the opportunity to earn a high school diploma, college credits and an associate degree concurrently. Career and technical education programs are available, as well as the university transfer program.
The PSC Charter Academy is currently accepting applications for fall enrollment and offers information online at charteracademy.pensacolastate.edu.
