Six Pensacola State College faculty members were inducted into the college’s Academy of Teaching Excellence on Thursday, April 2, during a dinner held in their honor in the Molly McGuire Dining Room on the Pensacola Campus.

This year’s Academy of Teaching Excellence honorees are instructor Patricia Agcaoili, adjunct faculty member Katherine Gaskill and assistant professor Julie Watkins from the Allied Health Department; instructor Jared Iserman from the Natural Sciences Department; and assistant professor Kimberly Markwick from the Applied Technology and Professional Services Department. Outstanding New Faculty honors went to instructor Terolyn Lay, Ed.D., from the Natural Sciences Department.

For 40 years, the Teaching Excellence Award has recognized faculty who demonstrate excellence in four key areas: enthusiasm for and knowledge of subject matter, effective student rapport and relationships, strong course content and organization, and effective and innovative instructional methods. Faculty are nominated for the honor by their students.

The Academy of Teaching Excellence was established in 1986 by then PSC Executive Vice President Charles Atwell, Ed.D., who later served as PSC president from 1998 to 2002, to honor faculty who exemplify the highest standards of teaching. The Outstanding New Faculty honor was added in 1994 to recognize both promise and excellence in teaching.

The award winners and their guests enjoyed a four-course dinner prepared and served by students from the Molly McGuire School of Culinary Arts, led by Chef Tatyana Hulsey.
