While Ms. Shauna Gough may be new to the position of Coordinator of Marketing and College information, she is certainly not new to the world of academia. Moving to the area in 2020, “one week before the world shut down,” according to Gough, the new coordinator has been immersed in education her entire life.
Her mother was an elementary and reading teacher, and her father was a psychology professor and guidance counselor at the local community college in Illinois, where Gough spent most of her life. Initially, she pursued a journalism major at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas then decided to change course to enter the world of education, transferring to Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, an institution renowned for its excellent teaching college, and graduating with a Bachelor of Science.
Gough was hired by the very high school she herself attended and went on to teach Speech Communications, English and Journalism there for 25 years; during that time, she was the English Department Chair, the yearbook and newspaper advisor, and the theater department business advisor. “I loved what I did so much; I truly looked forward to going to work nearly every day with amazing students. Not everyone can say that. I know how lucky I am.” While teaching full-time, Gough was also able to earn her Master of Education degree at the University of Illinois.
PSC welcomed Shauna Gough to its employment ranks on Sept. 9 this year in the College’s Marketing Department, where she hit the ground running with various articles and events. Be sure to introduce yourselves if you see her out and about on campus. Those who know her well know will tell you that she doesn’t know a stranger, so she encourages you all to please not be shy in saying hello!
