
Denise McNeff, an adjunct faculty member in the PSC Humanities and Social Sciences Department, presented “The United States’ Founding Years: Finding a Solvent Governing Philosophy” as part of the college’s months-long 250 Years Proud celebration commemorating the America’s semiquincentennial.
The 250 Years Proud campaign at Pensacola State College has continued into May with an American history art exhibition and a lunch-and-learn lecture on the nation’s founding years.
- The “250 Years of Freedom: Moments That Shaped America” art exhibition features the art of George Wilson and traces American history from Native American life before European contact through the Revolutionary War, Civil War and the modern era. It highlights key historical events, such as the Battle of Pensacola and the Battle of the Chesapeake, historical figures and the evolution of military aviation centered around Naval Air Station Pensacola. The series concludes with contemporary depictions of naval aviation and military service, reflecting on 250 years of conflict, progress and the changing meaning of freedom in America. The exhibit is located in the Switzer Gallery on the Pensacola campus through August 7. An exhibition reception will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2.

The presentation explored the United States’ founding years and the challenges of creating a government capable of sustaining a new nation and laying the foundation for a durable constitutional system.
- PSC’s South Santa Rosa Center will hold a flag-raising ceremony at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 28. Students, faculty and staff are invited to gather around the flagpole to recount patriotic quotes and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
Additionally, PSC will feature History Minute posts on Facebook and Instagram in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary on Wednesdays, May 13, 20 and 27.
Patriotic campus events have been planned for the months leading up to the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration on July 4. Event information and updates regarding the college’s 250 Year Proud campaign can be found online at pensacolastate.edu throughout the celebration.
