Pensacola State College’s Charter Academy was among 14 Escambia County School District institutions to earn an “A” grade for the 2023-2024 academic year from the Florida Department of Education.
The school district earned an overall “B” grade for the 2023-2024 school year.
Since opening in Fall 2022, 61 Charter Academy seniors earned high school diplomas, with 28 of those graduates also receiving PSC Associate in Arts degrees.
Charter Academy Principal Dr. Karen McCabe expressed pride in how well students performed on the FAST (Florida Assessment of Student Thinking) tests.
FAST – a relatively new set of state standards and assessments ─ began in 2022. Specifically for Florida students, FAST was based on the roll-out of the state Department of Education’s new B.E.S.T. standards (Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking).
“We are extremely proud of our students and grateful for the support we have received from their families and the community,” McCabe said. “We look forward to continued growth and success.”
Charter Academy’s fall 2024 classes begin Monday, Aug. 12, for ninth- through 12th-graders. McCabe expects the highest enrollment in the school’s history, with about 120 students.
The Academy opened in fall 2022 with 49 students, with 17 graduating in May 2023. Of that number, five graduates also earned their AA degrees.
In fall 2023, 80 students enrolled in the Charter Academy, with 44 graduating in May. Of that number, 23 earned AA degrees.
