The Pensacola State College Wind and Jazz Ensembles, under the direction of Doug Holsworth, will present their annual Spring Concert this month.
The free event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus at 1000 College Blvd.
Featuring a variety of music, the first half of the concert will highlight the Wind Ensemble as members perform the following pieces:
- “Tesla’s Dream” by Gary D. Ziek
- “A Moorside March” by Gustav Holst, arranged by Michael Brand
- Two Movements from “Incidental Suite” by Claude T. Smith, arranged by Joseph Benjamin Earp (II. Nocturne and III. Rondo)
- “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky, arranged by Michael Sweeney (I. “Promenade,” II. “The Hut of Baba Yaga” and III. “The Great Gate of Kiev”)
Following intermission, the Jazz Ensemble will present the following program:
- “Caravan” by Duke Ellington, Irving Mills and Juan Tizol, arranged by Frank Mantooth
- “My Funny Valentine” with words by Lorenz Hart, music by Richard Rodgers, arranged by Dave Wolpe
- “Get Funky” by Frank Mantooth
- “Olvera Street” by Gordon Brisker
- “Stella By Starlight” by Ned Washington and Victor Young, arranged by Bill Zaccagni
- “I Get A Kick Out Of You” by Cole Porter, arranged by Dave Wolpe
- “Straighten Up And Fly Right” by Nat King Cole and Irving Mills, arranged by Dave Wolpe.
Making up the PSC Wind Ensemble are flute ─ Deelia Warfield and Elijah Spann; clarinet ─ Megan Couey, Heaven Lee and Madison Edwards; alto/tenor saxophone ─ Ezra Baker; trumpet Jadon Hatfield; French horn ─ Stephen Pearce (PSC faculty); trombone ─ Shawn White; tuba ─ Jason Heiserman (PSC faculty); and percussion ─ Patrick Bonifay and Jonathan McKinley.
Members of the PSC Jazz Ensemble include alto saxophone ─ James Strader; tenor saxophone ─ Ezra Baker and Megan Couey; trumpet ─ Jadon Hatfield; trombone/vocals ─ Serenity Jones; the rhythm section – guitar Shawn White; piano – Jonathan McKinley; drums – Patrick Bonifay; and bass—Doug Holsworth.
