Chandler White’s job is almost akin to that of a cheerleader coach/college mascot hybrid.
His job is to recruit Pensacola State students to become more engaged with the College, exhibit school spirit and be more active in campus life. White is the new PSC Coordinator of Student Engagement and Leadership.
He previously worked as an assistant and retention specialist in the PSC Career and Technical Education Student Resources office.
“I want to be successful and continue working in higher education,’’ White said. “I like working in a position that helps students. But I don’t want to work in a high school. I prefer working with students who are college-age and want to be in school.”
White is an alumnus of the University of West Florida, where he recently earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Psychology. He has planned to work in a college or university’s human relations department or administration.
“I will be overseeing clubs and organizations on campus as well as planning various student events,’’ White said. “I saw this position was open and applied for it because I like to be involved in various things.”
He said he is trying to find new ways to motivate more students to attend PSC athletic events and increase club and organization activity.
“I want to bring about more awareness about what’s happening on campus,’’ he said. “I’d like to have more club presence.”
He pointed to PSC Student Veterans Association and Baptist Campus Ministries as two club benchmarks for activity and participation.
Pensacola State has about 30 clubs and organizations.
“I’d like to see more of them as active as those two,’’ he said. “I would especially like to get SGA more involved.”
