Bank of America Charitable Foundation has generously given Pensacola State College students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs a financial boost.
Through the foundation, the bank awarded the College a $10,000 grant to help CTE students working toward an Associate in Science degree, a vocational certificate, or college credit certificate.
The grant was provided by Bank of America’s Charitable Foundation. Established in 1958, the foundation supports and promotes quality educational, cultural, human services, environmental, and health care programming for underserved populations.
PSC CTE Student Resources Director, Deborah Hooks, said the first grants will be awarded this fall.
“The grant can provide up to a maximum of $1,500 a year to students who demonstrate financial need, and can be used to cover tuition, registration fees, and books,” Hooks said, adding the student must be in good academic standing or have a minimum 2.0-grade point average upon entering.
Recipients must also be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
Hooks noted that the CTE programs are popular and can pave the way for immediate employment and some high-paying careers.
“These are programs for students that are eager to join the workforce. They’re our welding students, carpentry students, dental hygiene, and massage therapy students. Many of these students are hired right away because our programs at PSC prepare them for immediate entry into the workforce,” she said.

During the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters, 30.5 percent of PSC students were enrolled in CTE programs.
“The meaningful work you and your team are doing in the community is so impactful, and on behalf of Bank of America, we are extremely grateful and proud to be your partner. We see the changes you are working hard towards and know your success will continue to flourish,” the Bank of America Pensacola Leadership Team said in a prepared statement.
