Just because you’re a nursing student with mad skills doesn’t mean you have all the skills needed to enter the workforce. Do you know how to develop a resume? And that beach selfie isn’t going to work as a professional headshot.
That’s why Pensacola State College is hosting numerous events in February to develop soft job skills for Career and Technical Education Training students who are learning those hard skills at the College.
February is national Career and Technical Education Month. CTE students are those working toward an Associate in Science degree, a vocational certificate or college credit certificate. This spring, 23 percent of PSC students are CTE students.
PSC hosted a CTE Open House on Feb. 1; a Multicultural Job Fair on Feb. 2; an Interviewing Skills Webinar on Feb. 7; and a Pop Up Resume/Mock Interview workshop today, Feb. 9.
Here are the other CTE Months events at the College:
- Valentine’s Day Sweets: 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, courtesy of the National Technical Honor Society. CTE Office, Room 641, Building 6, Pensacola campus.
- Lunch and Learn Employee Rights Q&A: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the lobby of Building 6 on the Pensacola campus.
- Pensacola Campus Open House and Guided Particles Demonstration: 3-5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21. Meet at Parking Lot W next to Building 18.

“CTE students can go for an Associate in Science degree that can take a year or two or get a career certificate in welding or culinary arts and be out in the workforce in a year,’’ said Deborah Hooks, PSC CTE Student Resources Director. “We have programs that can put students into high paying fields ranging from nursing to truck driving.”
