Baptist Health Care Foundation has provided $15,000 in scholarship funds for Pensacola State College students who are enrolled in the emergency medical technician program.
The presentation was made by Jennifer Grove, vice president of external relations at Baptist; Drew Stringfellow, director of primary, urgent and emergency care; and KC Gartman, executive director of Baptist Health Care Foundation, during a May 20 ceremony at the College’s Warrington campus.
“Baptist Health Care recognizes that emergency medical services (EMS) is a vital public service. Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of people in our community. Every day our emergency team members work closely together with EMS professionals who provide pre-hospital medical care to our patients. We are thrilled to support Pensacola State College and the students who have chosen this critically important career field for their profession through the creation of these EMS scholarships. Together, we will help people throughout life’s journey,” said Mark Faulkner, president/CEO of Baptist Health Care.
The gift is a three-year commitment to fund five $1,000 scholarships each year. The need-based scholarships will cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and other materials and program-specific equipment listed in the EMS program’s syllabus.
“Workforce development is a key role for PSC. Health sciences is an area of consistent focus and investment, so that we can help address labor shortages in the EMS/EMT field. Offering scholarship assistance is one way we can attract those students who can help meet this important workforce need,” said Pensacola State President Ed Meadows.
“Baptist Health Care’s gift will help us attract students who are highly motivated but may lack resources to attain this important professional standard.”
