It doesn’t take a lot of time to recognize that the PSC Women’s Soccer team is a winning one: in only their second season of existence, the team secured their first-ever championship title in the NJCAA Division II South Atlantic District Championship, beating Cape Fear 2-1 in the Wilmington, North Carolina after shooting goals in the first six minutes of the match.
It is no wonder the Pirates took the title as district champions: they also secured the titles of Region 8 Coach of the Year (Mark Yepishin’s second year in a row), Region 8 Player of the Year (Amelia Johnson, freshman defender and the second Pirate to earn this accolade since the program’s inception last year), and seven out of eleven spots on the All-Region team. Pirates named to the team are Paige Phillips (last year’s Player of the Year) and Jenna Maiorino – both for the second year in a row, as well as goalkeeper Remy Redmon, midfielders Maya Figuero and Hailey Gatica, and freshman Vivian Kettenhausen.
The Pirates now move on to the NJCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship in Huntsville, Alabama Nov. 17 through 23. Go, Pirates!
