PSC Pirates Volleyball secured their No. 2 spot in the Sun-Lakes Conference Tournament after they hosted their final three conference matches over the weekend against South Florida State, Palm Beach State and Indian River.
Per the PSC Athletics website, the Pirates came alive over the weekend with their first match against the Panthers. Leading in kills for PSC was Maddie Goodwin with nine, along with 16 digs. Reece Varden and Catie Woolf both brought in seven kills, and Riley Carter had six kills. In the last two sets, Cadence Goeden showed up in the last two sets with four kills, while Maddie Mire brought in 16 digs from the back row. Lauren Schuessler tallied 27 assists followed up with eight digs and one block assist.
The Pirates then took care of business against Palm Beach as the PSC honored their seven sophomores with the annual Sophomore Day match. Woolf led in kills with ten, along with nine digs. Varden and Goodwin had nine kills each. Danielle Lee did damage against the Panthers with six kills, and Schuessler earned 33 assists to go with 11 digs and one service ace. Mire showed up with 21 digs, four assists and once service ace.
The determining match of Pensacola’s conference No. 2 ranking included the Indian River Pioneers to execute a clean sweep and advance to the next level of tournament play. Varden stayed hot with ten kills, Woolf and Goodwin both earned eight kills, and Carter and Lee also matched with six kills each. Schuessler racked up 27 assists, one kill, four service aces and seven digs. Mire deflected the Pioneers with 20 digs and three assists.
The Pirates move on to the Championship Tournament, held in the PSC Hartsell Arena on Nov. 8 and 9. PSC Pirates fans are invited and encouraged to give support to our Pirates in their home court. Go, Pirates!
