PSC to host Florida Master Teacher Seminar July 14-18

Florida College System faculty members from 23 different colleges and a variety of disciplines will attend the 2019 Florida Master Teacher Seminar.

Set for July 14-18 on the Pensacola campus, this will be the eighth year that Pensacola State College has hosted the conference, which emphasizes innovation and excellence in classroom teaching.

The original Master Teacher Seminar was established in 1962 by Roger Garrison at Westbrook College in Portland, Maine. Since then, it has evolved into a national and international movement with seminars held in the United States as well as Canada and China. The goal of the seminar is practical exploration of ways to improve teaching.

Seminar director is Stephen Walker, a history professor at Southside Virginia Community College. He has led or participated in more than 50 Master Teacher seminars across the United States.

Walker will be joined by a staff of experienced faculty facilitators, including Pensacola State’s Burton Beck, Susan Robbins and Sara Smith. Beck is an instructor in the History, Languages and Social Sciences Department. Robbins is a Business professor, and Smith teaches in the English and Communications Department.
