Dual Enrollment is an exciting opportunity that allows students to take college classes and earn credit simultaneously towards both their high school diploma and college degree(s). Classes and books are FREE! This program is open to Florida students from a public high school in Escambia County or Santa Rosa County, an accredited private school (a list of schools we currently have agreements with can be found here), or an approved home-education program.

Students can take college classes conducted during school hours, after school hours, and during summer semesters. Classes are available online, on one of PSC’s Campuses, and sometimes on the high school’s campus. Classes aren’t just limited to traditional collegiate-level courses. Students wanting to pursue vocational programs like Carpentry, Practical Nursing (LPN), or Welding can also dual enroll (a list of programs eligible for Dual Enrollment participation is below).

PSC has served thousands of students through its various dual enrollment paths. One student’s path might be to take a few courses offered on their high school campus, while another attends one of our six campuses or online. Some students leave dual enrollment with a handful of credits earned towards their college degree and others graduate with their associate degree or career and technical certificate before they complete high school.

Benefits of Dual Enrollment
  • Reduce the average time-to-college degree.
  • Save money by taking college credit classes while in high school.
  • Increase the likelihood of college graduation.
  • Enhance academic performance.
  • Participate in career dual enrollment that will lead to an industry certification. Many industry certifications will articulate to college credit toward a degree.
  • Dual enrollment students have complete access to college facilities and resources, both physical and virtual, and are encouraged to use these resources to the fullest. This includes the libraries, tutoring labs, and fitness center/pool.

Eligible Programs

Associate in Arts – Dual Enrollment

The Associate in Arts (AA) degree is designed to prepare a student for entry into the junior year of a baccalaureate (bachelor) program. There is only one AA degree, but students can tailor this degree to their needs by selecting classes from one of our many advising tracks designed to assist students in transferring to a university later in their studies.

Any student who knows the area of study they plan to pursue at the upper division may elect to customize their studies at Pensacola State College in accordance with the requirements of a particular college or university. Reach out to your assigned PSC Advisor for help tailoring your classes to your needs.

Associate in Science – Dual Enrollment

The Associate in Science (AS) degrees are designed to prepare a student for immediate entry or advancement into employment requiring specialized skills. The programs consist of at least sixty (60) credits in two basic areas. One area will be specialized courses in the career area, and the second will be General Education courses.

Students working toward an AS degree are not necessarily preparing for transfer to a university. Earning one of these degrees prepares students for a career that requires study beyond high school but does not require a four-year degree. Students who decide to attend a university after completing their AS may be required to do additional work at the freshman or sophomore level. Career and Technical Certificates – Dual Enrollment

The Vocational Certificate (Clock Hour) programs prepare students for careers that provide direct entry into the workforce. The programs require prescribed vocational clock hour courses. Students must take all classes outlined in the course requirement per term (unless they make arrangements head of time with their PSC Advisor). Students must attend classes; absences can result in their not earning the clock hours needed to progress or graduate.

Eligibility Requirements

Interested students must meet the following eligibility requirements.

1. Must be in grades 6 through 12 in one of the following circumstances:

  • Enrolled at a public school in Escambia County or Santa Rosa County.
  • Enrolled in a private school with an articulation agreement with PSC.
  • Registered as a home school student in an approved home education program with Escambia County or Santa Rosa County.
  • Participating in the Personalized Education Program (PEP) through the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program.

2. If attending a Public or Private school, students must have completed a minimum of 3 high school credits and have a suitable GPA for the program type they are pursuing:

  • Students intending to enroll in college credit courses must have an unweighted high school grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • Students intending to enroll in a career and technical certificate program leading to an industry certification or applied technology diploma must have an unweighted high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

3. Must achieve a minimum score on a common placement test pursuant to Rule 6A-14.064, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.) or have achieved alternative placement methods pursuant to Section 1008.30 Florida Statute (F.S.)

  • Students intending to enroll in a career and technical certificate program must achieve the required score on the TABE for their intended program.

Testing Requirements

There are multiple tests and alternative placement methods students may use to show they are performing at the college level. The three most common tests are the ACT, SAT, and PERT. You must meet the minimum scores/alternative placement in Reading, English/Writing, AND Math (either level) to take Dual Enrollment Courses on a college campus or online. If you do not meet the minimum scores in all three segments, you may take dual enrollment courses offered on your high school campus for the course(s) in which you did meet the minimum score.

Students interested in Dual Enrollment and taking the ACT or SAT should put Pensacola State College as one of their college choices (School Code: 001513) so that test scores are sent to the college. If you have already completed one or both tests and did not list PSC at the time of testing, please request your official scores be sent to PSC.

Students interested in Dual Enrollment and taking the PERT, should schedule their test with the Testing Center. Students may take the PERT at the campus nearest you.

  • Students must come to the testing center with a valid state or federal government ID (pictures of these items will not be accepted).
  • Students must provide their Social Security Number (SSN), Name, Date of Birth, Address and Email to ensure test scores can be matched with a student’s application to the school when it is received.
  • The first time you take the PERT with PSC is free, any additional sittings cost $10.
  • Students may take the PERT test every 30 days.

How to Apply for Dual Enrollment

Applications take a few minutes to complete, and can take 3-5 days to process if you apply correctly. Follow the instructions carefully and check out our Frequently Asked Questions for more details.

  • Complete the PSC Dual Enrollment Application*
  • If you are applying for college credit classes, provide the following answers on the application:
    • Academic Level = Undergraduate
    • Student Type = Dual Enrollment
    • Program of Study = Dual Enrollment AA* or Dual Enrollment AS
    • Anticipated Start Date = Earliest semester in which you might start classes
    • Campus Location = Choose any option, no matter what you select you can still take classes at your high school, any of our campuses, or online
  • If you are applying for a career and technical certificate program, provide the following answers on the application:
    • Academic Level = Vocational
    • Applicant Type = Dual Enrollment
    • Program of Study = Dual Enrollment Career Certificate
    • Advising Track = The program you are applying to

After Applying

Please allow time for your application and eligibility requirements to be reviewed. You can check the status of your application by logging back into the application site. Keep a close eye on the email listed on your application (including the spam/junk folder). If accepted to dual enrollment with PSC, you will receive two emails to the personal email you used to create your application account.

  2. The “Pensacola State College – How to Access our Network” email

The second email will come from PSCAccountSecurity@pensacolastate.edu and will provide you with your PSC Email and password.

If you receive the acceptance email and do not receive the email with your login information within 2 hours, please double-check your spam or junk folder by searching for “PSCAccoutSecurity” with no spaces. If you still cannot find the email, please call 850-471-4534 to get assistance from our Student Help Desk.

If you do not receive any email within 5 business days of submitting your application, please contact us at dualenrollment@pensacolastate.edu so we can confirm we have received your application.

After Acceptance

Using the login information you received in the “Pensacola State College – How to Access our Network” email, log in to MyPSC.

You will be prompted to change your password on your first log-in. Choose something you can remember, because this will be the login you use to access everything at PSC.

You will also be prompted to set up 2-factor authentication. This is a requirement to access your PSC account off-campus. Most students choose to have a text message sent to their phone; however, you can select whatever authentication method works best for you.

If you have multiple Microsoft accounts, you may receive the error: “You can only access this site with a work account”. If you see this error, please ensure you’re using your PSC account to log in, not another Microsoft

How to Register for Dual Enrollment Classes

What Classes Do I Take?

To register for classes, you need to have an idea of what classes you need or want to take. Your home school parent or high school counselor will be your guide for what you need to complete high school. For guidance on what classes would best fit with your educational goals for college and future career plans please reach out to your assigned PSC Advisor. You can find their contact information in the Academics section of Workday.

Whether you’re taking a few classes before you transfer somewhere else, or completing a whole degree here at PSC, make sure you reach out to your PSC advisor so we can help you meet those goals.

How Many Classes Do I Take?

There is no minimum number of classes in each term. The maximum number of classes is determined by your grade level outlined in the table below. Please note that labs are not included in the class count when calculating the number of allowed classes.

How Do I Find Class Days and Times?

Once you have an idea of what classes you want to take, you can look for specific sections of those classes in the Course Search*.

You can also use this helpful tutorial to locate classes in Workday. If you choose this method, there’s a planning tool available where you can save your chosen classes to a schedule. This will help you double-check that your classes aren’t overlapping on days/times.

Once you have your classes picked out, please submit the correct form:

Post Registration Checklist

Get PSC ID Card and Parking Decal (FREE)

If you don’t already have a PSC ID or Parking Decal (or need new ones due to loss or damage), you can create a request for these in Workday. You can request to have these sent to you or come pick them up in our Admissions Office. Please use Technology Support if you’re looking for more specific directions.

Get Textbooks (FREE)

Books will be provided to registered dual enrollment students. The process to get your books will vary depending on your high school. Please see below for details.

Home School Students and Private School Students

The PSC Bookstore on the Pensacola Campus will fulfill textbook orders after receiving confirmation from the College that you are a registered student. Beginning approximately 2 weeks before term starts, you can go to the bookstore to get your books.

When picking up your books from the PSC Bookstore the student must be present with a photo ID and copy of their schedule (paper or digital). Additionally, if the student is under 18 a parent must be present because the student (or an adult if the student is a minor) will be required to sign the Bookstore Agreement regarding the rental and return policies. Public School – Escambia County

You must contact your high school counselor(s) for specific directions or follow previously supplied directions from your high school counselor(s) to ensure the correct books are ordered for you. The PSC Bookstore on the Pensacola campus will fulfill textbook orders after receiving registration information from your high school. Your school will let you know when and where the textbooks are available and ready for pickup.

If directed to pick up your books from the PSC Bookstore the student must be present with a photo ID and copy of their schedule (paper or digital). Additionally, if the student is under 18 a parent must be present because the student (or an adult if the student is a minor) will be required to sign the Bookstore Agreement regarding the rental and return policies. Public School – Santa Rosa County

Students attending Milton, Pace, Jay, Central, and Virtual Schools will pick up their books at the Milton Campus Library.

Students attending Gulf Breeze and Navarre will pick up their books at the South Santa Rosa Center Main Office.

Online Tools

There’s a handful of applications you’ll need here at PSC. Please take some time to explore them.

  • Canvas– Your online classes are held in Canvas, and most instructors keep their virtual grade book in Canvas. There is also a mobile app.
  • Outlook– You can access your PSC Email (Piratemail) in Outlook. You should check your Piratemail at least once per week. Whenever you are waiting to hear from PSC, this is the communication method you should check. There is also a mobile app.
  • PSC Alert– You will receive notifications of campus closures or emergencies. You can supply your phone number to receive notifications from PSC Alert.
  • Technology Support– If you have questions about any PSC technology system, check out Technology Support for fast and specific answers.
  • Workday– You can view your classesgrades, and campus mapsevaluate your degree progress, request a student ID and parking decal, and more in Workday. There is also a mobile app.

Home School and PEP Students

Details for Home School Students and Students Receiving the PEP Scholarship

If you are a home school student registered with Escambia or Santa Rosa counties or are receiving the Step Up for Students Personalized Education Plan (PEP) Scholarship you can participate in dual enrollment if you are otherwise eligible.

What Documentation is Required?

After you apply to PSC you will receive action items requiring your home school parent to do the following:

  1. Create an account with Dynamic Forms. Your parent can use the same account for signing forms for multiple students.
  2. Confirm your status as a home school student (one of two ways):
    • The student must be registered with either Escambia County or Santa Rosa County as a home school student. To confirm you’re registered, your parent will complete the Home School Students District Form.
    • Or the student must be receiving the PEP scholarship for the academic year in which the student is taking classes at PSC. You or your home school parent can provide a screenshot of their EMA Scholarship Portal showing your name and the “Awarded” notation next to the appropriate academic year.

Your home school parent will need to sign an Articulation Agreement (document outlining our contract on what you can expect and what we expect from your student during their time in dual enrollment).

Important Information for Students

Accommodations

The College* will review qualifications and services for students with disabilities based on documentation received (psycho-educational evaluation, medical history, IEP, 504 plan) and an interview with a Student Resource Center counselor. Accommodations include alternative testing, academic advising, registration assistance and classroom modifications. Classroom modifications include: use of recording-devices, use of a calculator, use of a spell checker, preferential classroom seating, note-taking assistance, sign language interpreters, alternate seating (adjustable desk/chair), alternate format texts, adaptive technology (reader/writer software), and disability related absences. Additional modifications and services may be provided with the appropriate supporting documentation. The contact number for the Student Resource Center for ADA Services is (850) 484-1637.

*For students taking dual enrollment classes on their high school campus: High schools will provide services and resources for students on the high school campus in compliance with the student’s IEP, 504 plan, or health care plan.

Continued Eligibility

To maintain eligibility for dual enrollment students must:

  1. Pass all dual enrolled classes with a C or higher.
  2. Maintain a college GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Maintain an unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher to take undergraduate-level courses and 2.0 or higher for vocational courses.

Consequences for not meeting the above requirements:

  1. If a student earns less than a C in a dual enrollment course or withdraws from a dual enrollment course: The student cannot participate in Dual Enrollment on PSC’s campus(es) or online the following semester. *
  2. If a student’s college GPA falls below the 2.5 minimum: The student is allowed one probational semester to get their college GPA above the minimum. If they are unable to raise their GPA to the required level, the student is barred from further participation in Dual Enrollment.
  3. If a student’s high school unweighted GPA falls below the 3.0 minimum: the student will not be permitted to participate in dual enrollment courses until their high school GPA is back above the minimum.

*If the student has an extenuating circumstance, they should contact their PSC Advisor with details on possible exceptions.

Expectations For Students

In addition to the performance requirements stated in the Articulation Agreement that maintain eligibility for dual enrollment:

  1. Pass all dual enrolled classes with a C or higher.
  2. Maintain a college GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Maintain an unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher to take undergraduate-level courses and 2.0 or higher for vocational courses.

All Dual Enrollment Students are expected to:

  1. Check their Piratemail (PSC Email) weekly (at least).
  2. Attend class the first week.*
    • In-Person Classes – show up on time and ready to work.
    • Online Classes – complete the first assignment by the due date.
  1. Be familiar with the syllabus for each class.
    • The syllabus is your contract with your instructor about what they expect from you and what you can expect from them.
  1. Work with your instructor(s) as soon as you are aware of any conflicts with class times. Instructors are NOT required to allow you to make up missed assignments or tests. There are NO automatically excused absences for your high school sports or events.

 

*Students who do not attend class within the first week will be dropped from the course. This can endanger your graduation from High School.

Family Education Rights And Privacy Act (FERPA)

As a student your privacy is covered under a federal regulation called FERPA. In K-12 your parents get automatic access to your student record, and this is not considered a breach of privacy. However, that all changes once you begin college (including Dual Enrollment).

If you want to give your parent(s) or guardian(s) permission to access your student record, which includes your class registrations, final grades, and major, then you can complete this form. Or, if your parent(s) or guardian(s) claim you as a dependent on their taxes, they can complete this form and submit the required tax documentation yearly to gain access to your student record without requiring your direct permission. Please note that the student form must be notarized or signed in the presence of a PSC Employee, whereas the parent form must be notarized.

The student record does not include:

  • Class Attendance Records
  • Grades on individual tests or assignments

Grade Policies

All letter grades are calculated in a dual enrollment student’s GPA and will appear on his or her college transcript. All grades, including W for withdrawal, become a part of the student’s permanent college transcript and may affect subsequent postsecondary admission. Dual enrollment courses in which a grade of D+, D, or F is earned may be repeated for credit one time and only the highest grade earned will be used to calculate the Pensacola State College cumulative GPA.

FOR PUBLIC & PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS ONLY: The school district or your private school is responsible for posting dual enrollment course grades as assigned by the College to the high school transcript. The school district or private school will assign numeric values to the letter grades as shown in the chart below. College faculty will not provide numeric grades for transcripts.

If a student is concerned with numeric grades, for example to compete for valedictorian of their class, students should discuss the details of how dual enrollment grades will be considered with their high school counselors.

FAQs for Dual Enrollment Students

Application Questions

If My Test Scores for Reading, Writing, or Math Don't Meet the Minimum, Can I Still Dual Enroll?

Possibly. There are some alternative placement methods we can check out. Please reach out to the appropriate PSC Point of Contact to research this possibility.

If after reviewing your test scores and alternative placement options you have not placed into the college level in all three areas, then you may still have an option. If your high school offers PSC Dual Enrollment classes on their campus, then you can take those classes only. For example, if you have college level placement for Reading and Writing, you can take non-math-based dual enrollment classes on your high school campus.

Any dual enrollment student wanting to take classes on one of PSC’s Campuses or Online will need to be placed at the college level for Reading, Writing, and Math.

What Program of Study Should I Pick?

You can only choose Dual Enrollment AA, Dual Enrollment AS, or Dual Enrollment Career Certificate. If you pick any other program of study your application will be flagged as an error and will take longer to process.

I Cannot Find My High School/Home School on the Application. What Do I Do?

All the local schools are available on our application. For Public and Private schools, make sure you have listed the state and city your school is located in. (i.e. Tate High School located in Cantonment, FL needs to select Cantonment in the City). For home school, make sure you have not listed any state or city to find the appropriate home school options.

What Happens After I Submit my Application?

Allow 3-5 business days for us to process your application. Public and Private School students, your counselor/principal will get your application first, and we will not begin to process your application until we receive approval to admit you from your school. Your 3-5 business day timeline will start from the time your counselor approves you for admission.

What Happens When I Submit My Registration Form?

Your form will automatically route to the appropriate officials. You will receive an email at your PSC email as each step of the approval process is completed. For Public and Private School students your counselor/principal will receive your form first. Once your request has been reviewed your PSC Advisor will register you for your classes. You can see any classes you’re registered for in your Workday under Academics.

How Do I View My Schedule?

In Workday navigate you’re your Academics App. Select “View My Courses” (If using the mobile app look for “Weekly Schedule” instead).

Where do I Access Workday, Piratemail, Canvas and Other Important School Apps?

Scroll to the top of this page and click on MyPSC and if not already logged in complete the login instructions.

Are There Any Important Dates I Should Know?

Absolutely! Make sure you familiarize yourself with the Academic Calendar.

How Do I Drop or Add a Class?

You will use the Registration Form (See Important Links Above) and select “I have a schedule for the selected semester, I need to change it”. Make sure you have checked the Academic Calendar and are still within the time frame to drop and add classes.

What Information Can My Parents Access About My PSC Student Record, and How Can They Access It?

I’m Having Trouble Getting Books From the PSC Bookstore, What Should I Do?

Graduating Student Questions

Why is There a Dual Enrollment Hold on my Account? I've Graduated from High School Already.

If you are returning to PSC after graduating from high school and participating in the Dual Enrollment program, please make sure you have reapplied to PSC as a First Time in College Student. The hold will be removed from your account once you are admitted. It may take a few business days for your account to be updated.

I’m Graduating From High School and I Want to Continue Taking Classes at PSC. What Do I Need to Do?

You will need to reapply to PSC as a First Time in College Student. When your first term as a First Time in College student begins you’ll be connected with a new advisor who specializes in your area of study. Until then, please feel free to reach out to your dual enrollment advisor for help with the transition.

I’m Finishing My AA Degree, What Do I Need to Do?

Congratulations!! Apply for graduation so we can make sure you will earn your degree. You will need to apply even if you do not want to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. If you do want to participate in the Commencement Ceremony you will find information about it by clicking on the link above.
