Pensacola State’s top academic students and dapper student ambassadors honored by the College

Eight Presidential Scholars were honored at a Recognizing Excellence reception at the PSC Pensacola campus Sept. 17. The students, most recent high school graduates, were awarded scholarships based on a variety of factors, primarily stellar academic achievement. Also honored were the 12 Pensacola State College Student Ambassadors — always dapper in their sharp blue blazers — who are students that represent the college at various events, from college fairs to on-campus functions and receptions.

Florida’s ‘Biggest Food’ specialist works toward GED at PSC

Stephen Walls cooks under the name “Walls Clay” – look him up on Facebook – and makes what he boasts is “Florida’s Biggest Food.” On Saturday, he’s serving up a 10-foot burrito to a local fire department and a couple nonprofit groups. On Wednesday, he cooked chicken on a Rolls Royce 501-D13 engine he’s converted into a smoker/grill. But it’s not just big food Walls has cooking. He’s also has big dreams. One of them is moving from the south side of the Pensacola State College Pensacola campus to the north side.

Monsanto-Solutia retirees donate $30,000 to PSC

Monsanto-Solutia retirees has donated $30,000 to Pensacola State to help students achieve their dreams. The Monsanto-Solutia Retirees Endowed Scholarships will be awarded to students with a Monsanto, Solutia or Ascend connection, Ascend employees enrolled in programs to enhance job skills, students enrolled in a health care program, or chemical engineering students.

Seven Pensacola State College SkillsUSA student-members have qualified for the organization’s national conference ─ after winning gold at the state level.

Hosted by Pensacola State, the 2019 Florida SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference was held April 7-9 at the Pensacola Bay Center. The event had a $4.5 million impact on the local economy and brought more than 6,000 visitors to the area for the conference and Worlds of Possibilities Career Expo and Job Fair.

Fund Raising powerhouse, Michelle Buchanan, to share expertise through PSC’s Nonprofit Center

Michelle Buchanan, a principal partner with Dini Spheris consulting company, will share her expertise on successful fund raising practices at two workshops offered through Pensacola State College’s (PSC’s) new Nonprofit Center for Excellence and Philanthropy program.

Buchanan will train nonprofit board members and local professionals on the tools they can utilize to raise the resources their nonprofits need to meet their missions—tools used by her clients to raise hundreds of millions.

More than 1,600 student-members will compete in the 2019 SkillsUSA Florida State Leadership and Skills Conference set for April 7-9 in Pensacola.

Hosted by Pensacola State College, the conference along with the Worlds of Possibilities Career Expo will be held at the Pensacola Bay Center. PSC music student wins Florida College System scholarship

Brenan Woody, a Pensacola State College classical guitar student, received the First Prize in the 2019 Florida College System Activity Association Winter Music Symposium’s Student Artist Competition. Woody, a music major, was awarded a $1,000 per year scholarship to help pay his tuition at any Florida university for two years. Woody has been studying with Dr. Joe Stallings for three semesters. He performed Nikita Kidskin’s “Usher Waltz” during the competition.

Give Kids A Smile Day to be held Saturday on Pensacola State’s Warrington campus

Pensacola State College will provide free dental services on Give Kids A Smile Day set for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, on the Warrington campus.

Dental hygiene and dental services, including cleanings, simple extractions, fillings and sealants, will be provided, on a first-come basis for children ages 4-14. Patients must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
