Pirate’s Treasure winners are outstanding in their field

Alonda Jones was the first person to correctly identify our very own Pirate Field as the location of the Pirate’s Treasure. Congratulations! Jones is an associate coordinator in financial aid, veteran services and scholarships.

Two runners-up each received a snazzy “Great” T-shirt for their efforts.  Amanda Stockton is a phlebotomy student and Banisha Blake is an aspiring pharmacy technician (and mother of young twin boys!) Both students will begin their respective programs in January.

PSC receives $300,000 grant to address violence against women

Pensacola State College was recently awarded $300,000 as one of 57 grants announced by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW).

OVW’s Grant to Reduce Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking on Campus Program supports initiatives to implement comprehensive, coordinated responses to violent crimes on campus through partnerships with victim services providers and justice agencies.

PSC professor to exhibit photography during PhotoNOLA

The photography of Pensacola State’s own, Kristen Regan-Miller, will be on exhibit in New Orleans through February.

Luna Fine Art Gallery will present the curated solo show, “Kristen Regan: Plastisphere,” by Regan, an associate Pensacola State professor. The photo collection explores the sublime beauty of this microscopic world with the intention of raising awareness of the dangers plastic represents for the marine world.​

Construction of new STEM building set to begin in January

It was a rainy and unseasonably cold Tuesday morning but a standing-room crowd turned out for the groundbreaking of the East Wing of Pensacola State College’s new STEM building.

Local officials, members of the BAARs family, along with representatives from Ajax Building Corp and Florida Architects joined Pensacola State’s Board of Trustees, Board of Governors, faculty, staff and students on Nov. 13 for the event.

PSC’s Virtual Tutoring Program receives 2018 Chancellor’s Best Practice Award

Pensacola State College was among four Florida College System institutions recognized for innovation and excellence on Wednesday by FCS Chancellor Madeline Pumariega.

Pensacola State, Florida Gateway College, North Florida Community College and Polk State College received 2018 Chancellor’s Best Practice Awards from Pumariega. The four colleges were honored for programs of excellence at the Association of Florida Colleges’ 69th Annual Meeting and Conference in Orlando.

2018 Walter F. Spara Writing Competition winners honored

Six of Pensacola State College’s most talented writers were recognized Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the 2018 Walter F. Spara Writing Competition Awards Reception.

Sarah Beal, Ian Belknap, Brenna Tressler, Abigail Johnson, Sarah Richards and McKaila Waddell were the top winners in the annual competition which honors Spara. A Pensacola State English professor from 1966 to 2000, Spara initiated the college’s creative writing program and its nationally-recognized literary journal, “Hurricane Review.”

Pensacola State’s AFC chapter receives multiple honors at annual conference

Pensacola State College was awarded the Platinum Chapter of the Year at the 69th Association of Florida Colleges Annual Meeting and Conference held Nov. 7-9 in Orlando.

The award was based on Pensacola State’s submission in 13 categories ranging from membership, community service, and other activities and contributions from June 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018.
