FA, SP, SU- Development of basic skills in listening, speaking,
reading, and writing with an introduction to culture. Students with
two consecutive years of high school Spanish within the last 3 years
with a grade of C or higher should begin in SPN1121.

| Course Learning Outcomes: |
1. Use basic grammatical structures such as the position of
adjectives;
2. Use the present tense of regular, stem changing and irregular
verbs covered;
3. Translate simple sentences from Spanish into English, and English
into Spanish;
4. Write sentences and coherent paragraphs while demonstrating
correct use of verb tense and noun/adjective agreements;
5. Read level-appropriate texts with correct Spanish pronunciation
and intonation;
6. Demonstrate comprehension of a level-appropriate text by
answering questions about the text;
7. Participate in casual Spanish conversation using level-
appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation;
8. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the cultures of Spanish-
speaking countries.

| Methods of Evaluation: |
Evaluation of student progress towards achieving the stated learning
outcomes and performance objectives is the responsibility of the
