Catalog Description:
Introduces the student to desktop publishing concepts and computer 
graphics.  The student will learn to use desktop publishing 
software, the scanner, and the laser printer to create a variety of 
professional looking business and personal documents.  It is 
designed for students interested in developing "hands-on" skill in 
using desktop publishing software.

Program Learning Outcomes:
Upon course completion, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand the generic concepts of desktop publishing
  2. Produce professional looking documents using Microsoft Publisher 2010.
  3. Manipulate the desktop publishing software to create brochures, newsletters, forms, advertising mail-outs, and other business documents.
  4. Use of correct terminology in describing and specifying various typefaces and be able to choose the most appropriate typeface according to the target audience.
Course Learning Outcomes:
To achieve these learning outcomes, the following will be
  1. Apply principles of balance, design, and creativity to attract, interest, stimulate, and motivate the reader.
  2. Import word processing documents into a desktop publishing program.
  3. Enhance documents with graphics, themes, and special effects.
  4. Create documents for personal applications.
Methods of Evaluation:
Evaluation of student progress towards achieving the stated learning 
outcomes and performance objectives is the responsibility of the 
instructor, within the policies of the college and the department. 
Detailed explanation is included in the expanded syllabus developed 
by the instructor for each section being taught.
Flexibility: It is the intention of the instructor to accomplish the objectives specified in the course syllabus. However, circumstances may arise which prohibit the fulfilling of this endeavor. Therefore, this syllabus is subject to change. When possible, students will be notified of any change in advance of its occurrence.

Student Email Accounts: Pensacola State College provides an institutional email account to all credit students. Pirate Mail is the official method of communication, and students must use Pirate Mail when communicating with the College. In cases where companion software is used for a particular class, emails may be exchanged between instructor and student using the companion software.
