on concepts and theories related to community health nursing.  
Special attention is given to the community as a client with 
emphasis on health promotion/disease prevention and teaching of 
groups in community settings.

Course Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, the student will:

1. Distinguish the unique elements and characteristics of community 
health and community health nursing.

2. Describe how diverse cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds 
function as sources of patient, family, and community values.

3. Describe strategies for learning about the outcomes of care in 
the community setting in which one is engaged in clinical practice.

4. Assess the health of a community from community health and public 
health perspectives.

5. Construct wellness strategies derived from the community 
assessment that contribute to the health and wellness of the 
community.

6. Develop teaching strategies to enhance the holistic health of 
under-served population aggregates within the community and in 
community settings, including hospice.

7. Collaborate with members of the community and other members of 
the health care team to optimize the health of the community.

8. Discuss potential and actual impact of national patient safety 
resources, initiatives and regulations on community health.
