MAT0018 Developmental Mathematics I

|Catalog Description:||Based on a student’s previous attempt of MAT0028, this course covers 25% of the material in MAT0028, which is a college preparatory math course. The major topics in the course are signed numbers, algebraic expressions, exponents, polynomials, factoring polynomials, linear and quadratic equations, rational and radical expressions, and an introduction to graphing.|

|Special Requirements:||1. Students must pass the course work, as determined by the evaluation criteria stated on the instructor’s section syllabus, in order to sit for the Final Exam. 2. Students will NOT be allowed to use a calculator on the Final Exam.|
|Program Learning Outcomes:||
This comprehensive course will give students a review of fundamental algebraic operations. The student will learn to evaluate and simplify polynomial expressions, solve linear and quadratic equations, factor polynomials, and graph linear equations in two variables.

Based on a student’s previous attempt of MAT0028, this course covers 25% of the following: 1. recognize and understand the properties of sets. 2. perform algebraic operations and order of operations to all real numbers. 3. solve algebraic equations and inequalities in one variable and solve appropriate word problems. 4. use the Cartesian coordinate system to graph linear equations. 5. recognize and perform operations with polynomials. 6. factor polynomials and solve quadratic equations. 7. recognize and simplify rational expressions. 8. recognize and simplify radical expressions.
|Methods of Evaluation:||Evaluation of student progress towards achieving the stated learning outcomes and performance objectives is the responsibility of the instructor, within the policies of the college and the department.
