| Catalog Description: |
This course is designed for students who have little or no algebra
background. The major topics in the course are operations with
signed numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios and proportions,
percents, and geometric figures. The prealgebra topics will include
properties of signed numbers, simplifying polynomials, and equation
solving.

| Program Learning Outcomes: |
This comprehensive course will give students a review of fundamental
mathematical skills and develop beginning algebra skills. The
student will learn to make the transition from arithmetic concepts
(fractions, decimals, and percents) to algebra concepts (signed
numbers, variables, order of operations, and equations).

At the end of the course the student will be able to:
1. Perform operations involving whole numbers, signed
numbers, fractions, and decimals.
2. Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to ratios,
proportions, and percents.
3. Convert among units of measurement and demonstrate
knowledge and skills associated with two-dimensional
geometric shapes.
4. Translate, evaluate, and simplify algebraic expressions
using the properties of signed numbers.
5. Solve algebraic equations and verify solutions.
