Comments:
Catalog Description: 
This is a basic course designed to prepare the student for more
advanced mathematics. The course treats both circular and 
trigonometric functions. Topics covered include fundamental 
concepts, identities, graphs of the functions, the inverse functions 
and their graphs, application to right and oblique triangles, 
trigonometric equations, vectors, and complex numbers. Meets A.A. 
general education 
Category III.

Course Learning Outcomes: 
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
    

  1. Use the trigonometric functions, similar triangle proportions,
and the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems involving
right triangles.

  2. Use coterminal and reference angles to evaluate functions of
angles.

  3. Solve circular problems involving linear velocity, angular
velocity, and areas of circular sectors.

  4. Sketch graphs of trigonometric functions and inverse
trigonometric functions.

  5. Verify trigonometric identities.

  6. Solve trigonometric equations.

  7. Solve oblique triangles, using the Law of Sines and the Law
of Cosines.

  8. Use vectors to solve problems involving magnitude and
direction.

  9. Convert complex numbers from algebraic form to
trigonometric form, and vice-versa.

  10. Perform mathematical operations on complex numbers in
trigonometric form, such as: multiplication, division, raising
to powers, and extracting roots.

 It is the intention of the instructor to accomplish the objectives specified in the course syllabus. However, circumstances may arise which prohibit the fulfilling of this endeavor. Therefore, this syllabus is subject to change.
