Program Learning Outcomes: 
Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of grammar by passing 
comprehensive tests and by using correct grammar and mechanics in 
their writing. Students will be able to write an effective essay.
Course Learning Outcomes: 
Students will be able to do the following:

    

  1. write an organized, well developed essay.

  2. use outlines to organize essays.

  3. locate subjects and verbs.

  4. make subjects and verbs agree.

  5. avoid sentence structure errors.

  6. solve verb problems.

  7. write standard expressions.

  8. manage pronouns (case, number, reference).

  9. correctly use capital letters, commas, and other punctuation
marks.

  10. use parallel construction.

  11. use confusing words correctly.

  12. use modifying words and phrases to clearly express thoughts
and ideas.
Methods of Evaluation: 
    

  1. Writing that includes paragraphs,essays, and other assignments.

  2. Quizzes and tests at instructor’s discretion.

  3. District objective final examination.

  4. Final essay, using a previously unannounced topic, in a timed, 
in-class setting.
Flexibility: It is the intention of the instructor to accomplish the objectives specified in the course syllabus. However, circumstances may arise which prohibit the fulfilling of this endeavor. Therefore, this syllabus is subject to change. When possible, students will be notified of any change in advance of its occurrence.
Student Email Accounts: Pensacola State College provides an institutional email account to all credit students. Pirate Mail is the official method of communication, and students must use Pirate Mail when communicating with the College. In cases where companion software is used for a particular class, emails may be exchanged between instructor and student using the companion software.
