Catalog Description:
This course addresses key technology management issues as they are 
applied to information resources management (IRM) for information 
centers and information services.  The course will include 
fundamentals of networking and telecommunications covering LAN's 
to "information Superhighways."  The course also includes 
introduction to voice, data and video traffic requirements and 
covers techniques for management of communication resources and 
services and information to oversee the network administration and 
network system management.

Course Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the successful student will 
demonstrate an understanding of:
1. A basic understanding of management information system terminology.
2. The components and the operations, managerial, and strategic roles 
of information systems within an organziation.
3. The major concepts, development, and  managerial implications 
involved in computer hardware, software, database management, and 
telecommunications technologies.
4. How information technology is used in modern information systems 
to support end-user applications, enterprise operations, e-Commerce, 
and managerial decision making.
5. The development of information systems solutions for business 
problems and how to implement change.
6. The managerial challenges and methods of managing information 
systems technologies, including information resource management, 
global IT management, and security and ethical challenges.
7. Concepts from other Bachelor of Appled Science courses.
Methods of Evaluation:
Evaluation of student progress towards achieving the stated learning 
outcomes and performance objectives is the responsibility of the 
instructor, within the policies of the college and the department.  
Detailed explanations are included in the expanded syllabus developed 
by the instructor for each section being taught.
Flexibility: It is the intention of the instructor to accomplish the objectives specified in the course syllabus. However, circumstances may arise which prohibit the fulfilling of this endeavor. Therefore, this syllabus is subject to change. When possible, students will be notified of any change in advance of its occurrence.

Student Email Accounts: Pensacola State College provides an institutional email account to all credit students. Pirate Mail is the official method of communication, and students must use Pirate Mail when communicating with the College. In cases where companion software is used for a particular class, emails may be exchanged between instructor and student using the companion software.
