research paper, and reading literature for understanding and

Global Learning Outcomes:
I. Critical Thinking: Students will evaluate the validity of their 
own and others’ ideas through questioning, analyzing, and 
synthesizing results into the creative process.     
II. Communication: Students will develop effective reading, writing, 
speaking and listening skills to communicate verbally and 
nonverbally on literal and figurative levels.      
VI. Information Management: Students will use effective strategies 
to collect, verify, document, and manage information from a wide

During this course, students will demonstrate ability to:
1. Examine writing critically in terms of meaning and content,
rhetorical strategies, and language and diction.
2. Revise and edit texts effectively.
3. Produce fully developed, coherent multi-paragraph expository 
essays.
4. Conduct a library search for specific information.
5. Write a coherent and unified research paper using effective 
organizational structure/development and correct documentation 
techniques.
              
              

Evaluation of student progress towards achieving the stated learning 
outcomes and performance objectives is the responsibility of the 
instructor, within the policies of the college and the department. 
Methods and requirements will vary, but all sections of ENC1102, 
however, will require:
1.  Writing which includes a minimum of four multi-paragraph essays 
and at least one timed in-class essay.
2.  A research paper of at least 1,000 words based on multiple 
sources.
3.  At least two unit tests and a final examination.
