CGS1570 Computer Concepts And Applications
There are no corequisites for this course.
A projects-based course in multimedia presentation tools with
emphasis on the use of microcomputers for professional and academic
use. Topics include presentation planning, ergonomic design, and
integration of several different types of multimedia. Participants
will become familiar with integrating text, clip art, digital
pictures, graphics, and animation with the Microsoft Power Point

|Program Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course participants will:
- Be able to employ microcomputers to increase their
productivity and effectiveness.
- Be familiar with multimedia presentation software.
- Have a basic working vocabulary and knowledge of
multimedia data types, computer ergonomics, and integration
of computing elements within the business environment.

- Describe multimedia and identify several different multimedia
- Be able to integrate different types of data entities into and
effective business presentation.
- Be able to use ergonomic considerations when designing
- Be able to apply “Basic Principles of Good Presentations”
when designing multimedia presentations.
- Be able to use and understand the different views in Power
- Be able to identify and use bullets and numbered lists when
- Be able to develop multimedia presentations that are visual
aids in oral presentations, not reading material to be read
word for word by the presenter.
- Be able to develop concise presentations while maintaining
consistency and readability through the presentation.
- Be able to use color clip art, and other graphics to change a
presentation’s look in a professional and effective ,manner.
- Be able to create note pages to assist the presenter during

during and after presentations.
- Be able to include visual effects to aid transitions between
slides during the presentation,
- Be able to include visual effects to build discussion points
- Be able to incorporate charts and data graphs developed in
other programs to help illustrate points during presentation.
- Be able to create digital images using other programs such as
Microsoft Word 2010 for inclusion in the presentation.
- Be able to include presentation timings and loops within the
presentation for oral presentations,
- Be able to incorporate audio and animation when appropriate
within the presentation to help illustrate or enhance overall
- Be able to digitize text and graphics through usage of digital
equipment (i.e., scanner) for usage in a presentation.
- Be able to determine when multimedia presentations are
appropriate solution to business scenario.

Evaluation of student progress towards achieving the stated learning
outcomes and performance objectives is the responsibility of the
instructor, within the policies of the college and the department.
Detailed explanations are included in the expanded Syllabus developed
by the instructor for each section being taught.
It is the intention of the instructor to accomplish the objectives specified in the course syllabus. However, circumstances may arise which prohibit the fulfilling of this endeavor. Therefore, this syllabus is subject to change. When possible, students will be notified of any change in advance of its occurrence.
