Catalog Description: This course introduces the student to the basics of router configurations. This is also the second of four courses designed to prepare a student to take the Cisco Certified Network Associate exam. The student will study Router Components, Router configurations, IOS, TCP/IP Addressing, and Router Protocols.

Course Learning Outcomes:
The student will:
  1. Build a network at layer 1 level.
  2. Console into the router in user and privileged mode.
  3. Access various router components, remotely access the router, and test network connectivity.
  4. Use the dialog to setup a router the first time it is used.
  5. Perform basic router configuration.
  6. Load CISCO IOS software from flash, a TFTP server, and ROM.
  7. Monitor ARP tables to remotely troubleshoot a router.
  8. Address and configure a network.
  9. Add RIP and IGRP to the router configuration.
  10. Install and configure a 5-router network in 50 minutes.
Methods of Evaluation: Evaluation of the student progress towards achieving stated learning outcomes and performance objectives is the responsibility of the instructor, within the policies of the college and the department. Flexibility: It is the intention of the instructor to accomplish the objectives specified in the course syllabus. However, circumstances may arise which prohibit the fulfilling of this endeavor. Therefore, this syllabus is subject to change. When possible, students will be notified of any change in advance of its occurrence.
Student Email Accounts Pensacola State College provides an institutional email account to all credit students. Pirate Mail is the official method of communication, and students must use Pirate Mail when communicating with the College. In cases where companion software is used for a particular class, emails may be exchanged between instructor and student using the companion software.
